  34. There are three demo products included here.  
  35. These are:
  36.  
  37.     BWDEMO.EXE   - The PubTech BatchWorks Demo
  38.     FILEDEMO.EXE - The PubTech File Organizer Demo
  39.     TEXTDEMO.EXE - The PubTech Text Editor Demo
  40.  
  41. Each of these products is available from Publishing
  42. Technologies.  BatchWorks retails for $99.95.
  43. File Organizer is $199.95 and Text Editor is $79.95.
  44. The File Organizer product also includes the Text Editor. 
  45.  
  46. The File Organizer and Text Editor demos are disabled 
  47. copies of the Retail product.  These will give you a
  48. "live" feel for each product.  The following
  49. functions have been disabled:
  50.  
  51.  File Organizer:
  52.    + Running Applications is disabled
  53.       (you can however launch TEXTDEMO.EXE
  54.        and the BWDEMO.EXE)
  55.    + Move/Copy is disabled
  56.    + File Restore is disabled 
  57.       (you can Backup files, but not Restore)
  58.    + Printing is disabled
  59.  
  60.  Text Editor:
  61.    + Saving files is disabled
  62.    + Running Applications is disabled
  63.    + Move/Copy is disabled
  64.    + Printing is disabled
  65.  
  66. The BatchWorks demo is not a working copy, but rather a 
  67. compiled BatchWorks script.  This will give you a feel for
  68. what BatchWorks can do.  An example of the script used for 
  69. the executable file BWDEMO.EXE is also included in the file
  70. named BWSCRIPT.PTB.  Although you will not be able to run
  71. the script file directly as you would with the retail 
  72. BatchWorks product, you can see how BatchWorks files 
  73. are setup to manage your Windows environment.  A separate
  74. BatchWorks SDK will be available from PubTech that allows
  75. compilation of BatchWorks scripts (.PTB) files into 
  76. executable (.EXE) files.  This is how the BWDEMO.EXE
  77. file was created.

  80. FILE ORGANIZER OVERVIEW
  81.  
  82. In the new PubTech File Organizer several features have
  83. been added including:
  84.  
  85. - Support for protected mode memory
  86. - Proportional font support
  87. - New icon look
  88. - Motion "effects" when opening windows/dialog boxes
  89. - Color icon support
  90. - Support for user defined icons for executable files
  91.   through FILE.INI using .BMP (PaintBrush) files & .ICO files.
  92. - Customization of features through FILE.INI (also allows 
  93.   network users to have their own customization features)
  94. - All disks are always retained on the Desktop, even when
  95.   "opened" (unless they are hidden by the EXCLUDE= statement
  96.   in FILE.INI)

  98. SETTING UP FILE ORGANIZER
  99.  
  100. We recommend that you take a look at the FILE.INI file located
  101. in your windows directory.  It has a number of sections that
  102. provide you with some flexibility in setting up your system.
  103. These sections are:
  104.  
  105. *** Desktop section ***
  106.  
  107. The desktop section is used to control the File Organizer
  108. desktop.  Keywords are:
  109.  
  110. Font: Used to set the font for icon text. Font name and size 
  111.       have to be used.
  112.  
  113. Sort by: Sets the sort type for open folders where:
  114.          0=Name, 1=Kind, 2=Date, 3=Default.
  115.  
  116. Save: If set to 1 Desktop Office will save the hot desktop
  117.       otherwise not.
  118.  
  119. Save open folders: If set to 1 FO will save the open folders
  120.                    on exit.
  121.  
  122. Save applications: If set to 1 FO will save the active
  123.                    applications on exit.
  124.  
  125. Desktop file: Names the file where the hot desktop will be saved.
  126.               If not given DESKTOP.PT will be used.
  127.  
  128. Expanded tree: If set to 1 trees will be shown with branches 
  129.                expanded.
  130.  
  131. Open disks as trees: If set to 1, when disks are double clicked,
  132.                      a tree will be displayed; multiple trees
  133.                      can be opened simultaneously.
  134.  
  135. Text editor: Names the text editor that will be run when a
  136.              generic file is opened.
  137.  
  138. Screen dimmer: Sets the time in minutes the screen dimmer will 
  139.                wait to blank the screen. Notice that a value of
  140.                zero will turn off this option.

  155. *** Open folders section ***
  156.  
  157. This section controls the behaviour of the FO open folders. 
  158. Keywords:
  159.  
  160. Vertical or diagonal: If set to 1 open folders will be shown
  161.                       stacked, otherwise they will be cascaded.
  162.  
  163. Close previous: This option overrides the previous one, when set
  164.                 to 1 it closes other previously opened folders in
  165.                 a single disk before opening a new one.  Note, 
  166.                 that multiple disks can be opened simultaneously
  167.                 in Diagonal format when this option is set.
  168.  
  169. Example:
  170.        [Open folders]
  171.        Vertical or diagonal=0
  172.        Close previous=0

  174. *** Drives section ***
  175.  
  176. Used to control the drives and files. Keywords:
  177.  
  178. Ask for replace: When set to 1 FO will ask for confirmation
  179.                  wherever a file needs to be replaced.
  180.  
  181. Change directory: If set to 1 FO will change directory when
  182.                   opening a folder or running an application.
  183.  
  184. Exclude: Excludes the drives specified, separate each drive with
  185.          a comma. FO won't show excluded drives.
  186.  
  187. Default path: Specifies the path to be shown when opening a drive.
  188.               Default is the root directory, notice that it is
  189.               applied to all drives.
  190.  
  191. [Drive letter]: Specifies the path to be shown for the specific
  192.                 drive letter.
  193.  
  194. Force drive type: Skips the FO automatic drive detection routines
  195.                   and forces a drive to be treated as a hard, 
  196.                   floppy or network drive.
  197.

  209. Application information and control section. Keywords:

  211. Run iconic: If set to 1 application will be run iconic.
  212.  
  213. New window on call: If set to 1 a new instance of the application
  214.                     will be created, otherwise the application 
  215.                     will be activated.
  216.  
  217. [Number]: Defines an application that will be added to the 
  218.           applications menu.  Notice that these numbers must be
  219.           in sequencial order.

  235.           envelope icon.

  237. Spreadsheet: Shows the files with the extensions given with the
  238.              spreadsheet icon.

  240. DataBase: Shows the files with the extensions given with the
  241.           database icon.
  242.  
  243. Graphics: Shows the files with the extensions given with the
  244.           graphics icon.
  245.  
  246. Publish: Shows the files with the extensions given with the 
  247.          publish icon.
  248.  
  249. Project: Shows the files with the extensions given with the 
  250.          project icon.
  251.  
  252. Account: Shows the files with the extensions given with the 
  253.          account icon.

  278. BATCHWORKS OVERVIEW
  279.  
  280. The new BatchWorks product gives users unprecedented 
  281. control over the execution, control, and interface
  282. to Windows applications.
  283.  
  284. BatchWorks also includes a library of about 100 icons
  285. which can be associated with batch (.PTB) files in
  286. the Program Manager.  Although this demo does not
  287. allow you to make these associations, the released
  288. version of BatchWorks gives you this flexibility.
  289.  
  290. BatchWorks commands are simple, yet powerful.
  291. In the following example, you will see some of
  292. the statements used in the BWSCRIPT.PTB file
  293. used to create the BWDEMO.EXE:

  329. do is to run the BWDEMO.EXE file.  This will show
  330. you some of the available features.

  333. SUMMARY

  335. Remember, the executable files included here are
  336. for demonstration purposes only.  Although many of
  337. the functions of the File Organizer and Text Editor
  338. can be used, these demo files are not intended for 
  339. production use.
